Cardinals Drop Final Game of Road Trip:

June 27, 2006 - DAYTONA BEACH, FL- The rain stayed away and the men came out to play, some of them in a very big way. In the final game before a five-game road trip the Cubs (3-2) defeated the Palm Beach Cardinals (2-3) by a score of 6-3 in a Tuesday afternoon game. Holliman would allow a solo-homer to Cardinals outfielder Joe Mather before settling down to retire 10 men in a row during his middle innings. Holliman would exit after six innings pitched with one run allowed on three hits while striking out seven. Holliman has now won five of his last six decisions including three in a row.

The offense would get started again in the fifth with a lead-off double by Joe Simokaitis. Spears would single and Lane would walk to load the bases. Both Spearman and Craig would deliver with sacrifice flies to right field to extend the score to 5-1 Cubs. Daytona would add another run in the eighth with another Craig RBI, giving him four of them on the day to secure a five-run lead.

Mike Sillman:
Palm Beach Closer
33.1 IP
1.08 ERA
45k's
18 saves

Anybody have any additional info on this guy?... the stats can only tell part of the story.. and so far his story is pretty darn good.

Cardinals Slide Continues: No not the st. louis cardinals

July 6, 2006 - VERO BEACH, FL - The Vero Beach Dodgers took advantage of three Palm Beach errors late in the game to beat the Cardinals 6-5 Wednesday night at Holman Stadium. Cole Bruce went 3-4 with 2 RBI and Adam Thomas earned the save in his first game back from AA-Jacksonville. The series continues at 7:00 PM on a Thirsty Thursday at Holman Stadium. Palm Beach immediately answered in the 6th. Barthelemy doubled with one out and Matt Dryer singled him to third. Brandon Yarbrough then grounded a ball to third that might have been a double play, but it was thrown into right field to plate Barthelemy. Dryer then scored on a single from Rayner Laya to put the Cardinals ahead 5-3.

Cardinals Lose in Puzzling Fashion:

July 4, 2006 - JUPITER, FL- Imagine this scenario: Runners on second and third base with one out; down a run in the bottom of the 12th inning and playing in front of a July 4th crowd of 6,584 fans at Roger Dean Stadium. Deep fly ball is lifted out to left field, easily deep enough to score Matt Dryer tagging up at third base. With all eyes on Dryer, base runner Amaury Marti decides to tag from second base, even though he’s already in scoring position. Hammerheads left-fielder Dante Brinkley lets go of a strike to third baseman Grant Psomas, in time to get Amaury Marti and just before Dryer touches home plate.

Palm Beach starter Nick Webber threw a fantastic seven innings in the no-decision, allowing just one run on five hits. Webber has not tasted victory since a May 6th start at Clearwater. [/url]

Newcomer Colby Rasmus is fitting in just fine after picking up back-to-back multi RBI games.

Palm Beach Quartet Shuts Down Brevard County:

July 10, 2006 - JUPITER, FL- In a game that lacked excitement, the Palm Beach Cardinals dropped the Brevard County Manatees, 4-1, to take the final game of a three game set at Roger Dean Stadium. Four Palm Beach pitchers combined to allow just one run against the Brevard offense which came into the game with a .263 average, ranking them second in the Florida State League behind Dunedin.

Jose Garcia received the spot start, lasting four innings and allowing the Manatees only run in the second inning. It was the first start of 2006 for Garcia, who made twenty starts as a Palm Beach Cardinal last season. Zach Zuercher (3-2) picked up the victory working three strong innings in relief, allowing just two hits, while walking one and striking out another.

Mike Sillman worked a perfect ninth to obtain his 19th save of the season, striking out two batters including pinch-hitter Carlos Corporan. The Cardinals offense was led by Matt Dryer’s 2-for-4 performance with an RBI and newcomer Colby Rasmus picking up back-to-back multi RBI games.

Cody Rasmus had 3 RBI's including his first HR since being called up to Palm Beach(AP)

Palm Beach sweeps DH:

July 13, 2006 - VERO BEACH, FL - The Palm Beach Cardinals took two very different ends of Wednesday's doubleheader with wins of 11-9 and 1-0 over the Vero Beach Dodgers at Holman Stadium. The Cardinals knocked out four homers in the first game then needed just a solo shot from Colby Rasmus to drop the Dodgers in the nightcap. In the first game, Palm Beach set the tone early. Kevin Collins, in his first at bat for the Cardinals, cranked a grand slam to center off Dodgers starter Blake Johnson. The Vero right-hander bounced back to strike out the next four hitters, but the Cardinals were just getting started.

The nightcap belonged to the pitchers. Vero Beach managed only one hit off Tyler Adamczyk, Brian Stitt and Dennis Dove. Stitt (1-0) earned the win with two perfect relief innings and Dove recorded his 4th save by retiring all three batters in the 7th. The only run came courtesy of Colby Rasmus. The 1st Round pick of the Cardinals in last year's draft lauched a 2-out home run to right field in the fourth inning of Jonathan Figueroa for what turned out to be the game's only run. It was his first homer in 8 games since his call-up from Low-A Quad Cities.

Cardinals Drop Third Straight Versus Cubs:

July 18, 2006 - DAYTONA BEACH, FL- The Daytona Cubs (17-6) played a different hand to the Cardinals from Palm Beach (5-4) on Monday night, but the result was the same for Daytona. The offense on the evening would be provided by Alan Rick. Rick went 3-3 on the day while driving in four runs. A sac fly started the offense off Rick’s bat in the second to give the Cubs an early lead. After the Cardinals tied the game, back to back hits by Rick and catcher Jake Muyco would give the Cubs the lead back. Palm Beach would not go easy as the Red Birds eventually took the lead before Rick came back up in the sixth. With Ryan Harvey and Matt Ciaramella on base, Rick would drive a double deep into the right-center gap to plate both runs while retaking the lead for Daytona. Rick had won 50% of the Beef O’ Brady’s Player of the Game Award on Sunday and on Monday he would take the whole thing.

Tampa's Guillen Knocks Out Palm Beach:

July 18, 2006 - JUPITER, FL- In their first meeting of 2006, the Palm Beach Cardinals fell to the Tampa Yankees, 7-2, with Yankees’ left fielder Rudy Guillen leading the way at Roger Dean Stadium. Guillen finished the night 3-for-5 with five runs-batted-in, including a fifth inning three-run homerun to place the Yankees on top for good, after the Cardinals tied things at 2-2 after the second inning.

Cardinals Drop Sixth Straight:

July 20, 2006 - JUPITER, FL- The Palm Beach Cardinals never seemed to be interested in winning Thursday night’s ball game, as the Tampa Yankees picked up their third straight win, 7-1, at Roger Dean Stadium. Tampa lead-off hitter, Victor Hall, starting things off in the first inning with a ground rule double to right field. Hall would later score, as Cody Ehlers picked up his league-leading 82nd RBI, grounding out to second baseman Juan Lucena.

The Yankees really put this one out of reach in the third, scoring four runs on five hits. All of the hits in the inning were singles off of starter Nick Webber, with catcher Jared Greenwood knocking in the innings final run. Webber (5-4) picked up the loss, giving up six runs, with only two being earned, over 6 1/3 innings. The loss is Webber’s first in the month of July after picking up back-to-back victories over his last two starts.
