Iowa defeats Memphis in Mulder's start, 5-4
Mark Mulder's first start in Memphis didn't go that well. He went 4 IP and gave 4 ER's including a homer and walked 4. However the Redbird offense was able to score enough to take him off the hook. Alan Benes (5-5) gave up a homer to Geovany Soto to take the loss. Skip Schumaker had a solid night going 3 for 4 with a double.

New Manager and Hitting Coach for 'Birds in 2007
Memphis, Tenn. - After a disappointing 2006 campaign that saw Memphis finish with a franchise-worst 58-86 record two Redbirds field staff members will not return next season. Manager Danny Sheaffer will not be at the helm for the Redbirds next season. The former Cardinal and Redbird was named the manager in the middle of the 2003 season in place of Tom Spencer. The Redbirds went 244-266 (.478) in Sheaffer's tenure with one second place finish and two third place finishes in the Pacific Coast League's American Northern division.
Hitting Coach Tommy Gregg will not be assigned to the 'Birds next season. Gregg had been the Redbirds hitting instructor since 2002. The St. Louis Cardinals have not named replacements for Sheaffer or Gregg. _________________
