Guys,
Remmeber the Cardinals only play 15 interleague games. Since we are playing the Tigers for 3. That leaves 12 games left. Every Cardinal fan knows we are gonna either go to Kaufman Stadium(ROYALS) but what we dont know yet is, will the Royals play in Busch. I remember in 2004 we only played them 3 times. I agree with the Detriot thing, 06 it was ok to go up to Michigan, but then we kicked there buts in the World Series and we have to play them again in DETRIOT.
So far from reading this post this is the IL matchups i have got
3 vs. Detriot in June
3 vs. Royals
3 vs Boston
3 vs NY
3 vs Rays, or Orioles
There's only 15-16 interleague games a year so because we have one of those "yearly interleague games" much similiar to the Cubs/White Sox it takes 1 series away from the division were suppoed to play in. |

The last two times we matched up with the east (2003 and 2005), we got both the Yankees and the Red Sox.
In 2003, the reasoning was that it was a matchup of historic franchises who had World Series histories.
In 2005, the reasoning was that these historic franchises needed to come to Busch stadium in it's final season, plus a WS rematch w/the Red Sox.
Given that we don't have either of those cards to play this time, I REALLY doubt we get both of them. Also, the last time through in 2005, we did not play Baltimore, so it would seem to make sense that we play them.
Also, in the past, the Royals have complained to MLB when they were once scheduled to play here, w/o a return in KC. As a result, MLB makes sure we always play there, even if they don't play here.
So, assuming we have 5 interleague series, we know that one will be @KC and 1 will be @DET (although that still makes no sense).
That leaves three series, at least two of which will be at home. I would assume we get Baltimore at home for one of those. That would likely leave one more at home against either Toronto or Tampa Bay. As for the final series, I could see it being one of the following:
The other of those two at home (so we would have Toronto, Tampa, and Baltimore at home, KC and DET on the road) (doubtful we would go to either TB or TOR since we just did in 2005
A return series with KC (so we have KC, Toronto/Tampa, Baltimore at home and KC DET on the road)
A trip to New York for the final season of Yankee Stadium (so we have Toronto/Tampa and Baltimore at home, KC, DET and NYY on the road).
To me, the last one makes the most sense, both because of the whole last year at Yankee Stadium factor, and because with each of the other two, we wouldn't have any road series against the AL East.
Of course, we could find out that the information in the free press that says we're playing in DET is incorrect, which sends this all back to the drawing board. _________________ Mmmmm... I look good. I mean really good. Hey everyone... come and see how good I look! |

The quote is from this ProJo article, though it doesn't specify if the Cardinals will be visiting or hosting. I believe the last time they played was in St. Louis, though I could be mistaken, so I'm hoping to see them at Fenway. _________________ My girlfriend cheated on me with Cam Janssen, and now I love her even more. |

They were at Busch in 2005, so I think they would be at Fenway... which would mean that if we played the Yankees too, that we would be at Yankee Stadium as well, correct? _________________ "When I put on my uniform, I am the proudest man on Earth"

That would be perfect if they play out there for a one week road trip. I was going to head out that way for a 5 day baseball trip to catch the last year of Yankee Stadium, but seeing the Cards play at Fenway then Yankee Stadium would be the best. |

From Joe Strauss's chat:
| Quote: |
Joseph: Hi Joe,
Based upon the intra-divisional format, the Cards are scheduled to play AL East foes in 2008 with, of course, the exception of their cross-state rival, KC (yawn).
Can you therefore explain why, according to a recent Detroit Tigers press release, the Redbirds are making a road visit to Motown for a third straight year next June?
Beyond the fact that this match-up draws well (lots of Redbird fans make the trip) and it gives two old friends (TLR and Leyland) a rare chance to connect during the season, I'm baffled.
Thanks,
Joseph
Joe Strauss: I honestly don't know the answer. I discussed it with a club official last night who also didn't know. The Cardinals are scheduled to travel to Boston and to host Tampa Bay next season. They don't play the Yankees or the Orioles but do enjoy the "rivalry" home-and-home against the Royals. Interleague play unnecessarily complicates the schedule, infringes on the schedules competitive integrity and helps attendance. Guess which one MLB pays most attention to? |
Emphasis mine. Can't believe they didn't send the Cards to the last season of Yankee Stadium. _________________ C70 at the Bat, updated 7/17

| If it really is a series that makes no sense AT ALL at Detroit that stops the Cards from going to Yankee Stadium, that is just plain stupid. You have the top two most world series wins teams, they should play in the final year of that historical stadium, espicially when the schedule says NL Central vs. AL East for the year. Well at least I can plan the trip when the Cards are in Boston, hope the schedule works that the Yankees are in town right before or right after that series. |

Pfffth! I'd trade a HOME series against the Royals for one last series in the old Yankee stadium. I'd like to see Comercia Park someday but I ain't gonna do it this year for a couple reasons and that is because it may have blocked a series at NYY and because I would just go to Boston instead. _________________

I'm with "everyone" else. I would love to see a Cardinals/ Yankees to finish out this Yankee Stadium. In person would be better, but just seeing it would be enough...
And do we ever play anyone in the AL Central other than the Tigers & Royals? I'd love to see the Twins, but I can't remember ever playing them in the last 5-6 years.... _________________ "When I put on my uniform, I am the proudest man on Earth"

They played the Twins from 1997-2001, when the interleague matchups were just Central vs. Central instead of rotating, and that seems to have been the last time, as far as I can tell. _________________ C70 at the Bat, updated 7/17

| I don't understand the nostalgia for old Yankee stadium. It's a blighted pit. The new Yankee stadium will be much nicer - I'd rather see the Cardinals play there. |

It's not about the condition of the stadium, it's about everything that the stadium represents.
The current stadium is "The House That Ruth Built."
The future stadium will be "The House That YES Network Built."
There are only three classic stadiums left, in Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park, and Wrigley Field. All of them hold a lot of history. A lot of people would like to get the chance to see if before one of those three is gone.
The newer parks are nicer places to watch baseball games. But those three parks are great places to experience a baseball game, and feel connected to the game's history.
The old Busch Stadium was only 40 years old, and aside from a few changes, was a cookie-cutter park like several others (the Vet, Three Rivers, Riverfront, even Shea). But, Cardinals fans were sad to see it go. Well, Yankee Stadium has been around a lot longer than Busch was, and had a lot more history in it.
As a Cardinals fan, I was sad to see the Old Busch go. As a baseball fan, I'll be sad to see Yankee Stadium go. _________________ Mmmmm... I look good. I mean really good. Hey everyone... come and see how good I look! |
