this thread is a list of the # turners for the countdown clock:

Game 1 @ Busch - #81 - Hall of Fame Football player and former St. Louis Cardinal Jackie Smith. The tight end played 16 seasons in STL and wore jersey #81.

Game 2 @ Busch - #80 - ???

Game 3 @ Busch - #79 - The Cardinals fan favorite mascot Fredbird! Fredbird was born in 1979 and has been bringing smiles to millions of Cardinals fans ever since.

Game 4 @ Busch - #78 - STL Post Dispatch writer and long time Cardinals beat writer Rick Hummel. Rick began the Cardinals beat in 1978.

Game 5 @ Busch - #77 - CIN Reds Outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. - Griffey hit his 500th career home run in Busch Stadium last June 20th. (Wonder what he has to do with the #77???)

Didn't they do this for the magic number last year? I would think most of those will be the same. I'm not sure when it started though. I know it didn't start at 81.

I doubt McGwire will be anywhere near Busch this year.

I was at the game this weekend when they had Fredbird to #79, and I was a bit confused. Because I seem to remember during a lot of games last year, that the team would run a promo between innings that Fredbird was turning 21. If he was "born" in 79, wouldn't he have turned 21 a few years ago?

I wonder if a member of the Kile family will do 57.

Either that or a player very close to DK (maybe Matty Mo?).

Yea that could be, too bad Mike Matheny isn't still a Cardinal, he could do that.

They could have every member of the current team change the number when it matches their number. Except of course for mighty So Taguchi.

I'd rather see Matt do #35 and Kannon Kile do #57

OK, I missed part of the game because I had to pick up my niece at school. Did they say why Jr pulled the 77?

I thought it might be b/c he was born in 77 - but I checked and he was born in 69...

I'm guessing this is the best time for him to do it. I'm not sure when the other Reds series in Busch are, but they might already have things planned for those games. Since HR#500 was in the stadium he should get the honor of doing it.
