Nonprofit, charitable owners make Memphis Redbirds a rarity in pro sports
By WOODY BAIRD, Associated Press Writer

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- It seems almost unimaginable in pro sports: a team that gives its profits to charity.
That's the goal for the owners of the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds, who donate thousands of dollars to inner-city charities while helping breathe new life into a once-crumbling strip of downtown.
AutoZone Park -- the team's $80 million, 14,200-seat stadium -- is owned by The Memphis Redbirds Baseball Foundation, which is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a charity.

I've been to Memphis, it's not a pretty place.
My parents considered moving there a long time ago, but didn't want to because the schools weren't very good.
Good to see our other team giving back to the community. _________________ My two favorite teams are the Cardinals and whoever plays the Cubs. |

Yes it is! Auto Zone park is very nice for a AAA club. A lot nicer than Greer Stadium, home of the AAA (Pirates) Sounds here in Nashville.

I agree reid. Auto Zone Park is AWESOME!! It's nice for a baseball park at any level. It's well designed, right in the middle of everything downtown and there's not a bad seat in the house. And Memphis itself is a fine city. I love it there. They've done so much with downtown. It's a very fun and pretty place to be. If you haven't been lately, then I suggest going back and giving it another try. It's changed a lot over the last few years. My brother and SIL have lived there for almost nine years and it's a totally different place from when they first moved there. (Just for the record, I liked it when they first moved there; just like it even more now.)

Well then, I will have to put that on my list of things to/try. _________________

I've been to Auto Zone park, and it is fantastic. I loved it. CardsfanKS might have been talking about the city of Memphis itself though...not necessarily the prettiest place you'll see. |

| A very dear friend of mine, who happens to be a Cards fan as well, lives in Memphis and she loves it. She goes to Redbirds games often and has told me how nice Auto Zone Park is. I have an open invitation to go down there, and someday I will take her up on it. |

I grew up in NW TN, so we basically had to go to Memphis to do anything cool. My view of Memphis has always been that it has some of both worlds. There are some sides of town that are very pretty, butthere are some other parts of town that are pretty bad, as well. I've not been back in a few years, and maybe I'll head there when I am back home for an extended visit. _________________ "Opportunities multiply as they are seized."

Yes I can agree with that, there are some parts of Memphis that I wouldn't like to be in after dark, but then there are some really cool places to go and/or see while your there. _________________
