High A Palm Beach Cardinals News and Notes Thread
Welcome to the High A Palm Beach Cardinals Thread, the Palm Beach Cardinals won the Flordia State Leauge Title in 2005, this is the 3rd highiest level you can get to in the minor system behind AA Springfield and AAA Memphis, the main highlight of this team is closer Mark Worell who had 40 saves in 2004, and won the Rolaids Relief man of the year for the entire minor leauges. I hope you enjoy all these updates as much as we enjoy bringing them to you.

PALM BEACH WINS FLORIDA STATE LEAGUE TITLE ON HOFFPAUIR’S TENTH-INNING HOMER
PB Cardinals win Class A-Advanced championship; Six Swing players participate in Cards’ postseason run
Former Swing second baseman Jarrett Hoffpauir blasted a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning as the Class A-Advanced Palm Beach Cardinals defeated the Lakeland Tigers, 5-4, to win the Florida State League championship in Lakeland, Florida, on Tuesday night. The Palm Beach Cardinals, who used six promoted Swing players in the postseason, joined the Swing as the two St. Louis Cardinals affiliates to qualify for the playoffs in 2005.
With the win, the Palm Beach Cardinals defeated Lakeland, three games to two, in the best-of-five championship series. The championship is a first for Palm Beach, a club that began play as a Cardinals affiliate in 2003.

High A Palm Beach Cardinals
Palm Beach Cardinals relief pitcher Mark Worrell captured the 2005 Rolaids Relief Man Award for Minor League Baseball with a 2-3 record with a 2.25 ERA and 35 saves in 53 appearances(AP)
Worrell Captures the Rolaid's Relief Man for Minor Leauges
Palm Beach Cardinals relief pitcher Mark Worrell captured the 2005 Rolaids Relief Man Award for Minor League Baseball, just edging Matt Varner of the Fort Wayne Wizards (Padres) in the Midwest League, 103-100.
Worrell, a right-handed relief pitcher residing in nearby Boynton Beach, compiled a 2-3 record with a 2.25 ERA and 35 saves in 53 appearances.
Worrell was 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA and three saves during the Florida State League playoffs and was the winning pitcher in Game 5 of the Florida State League Championship Series, allowing one run in 2.1 innings of work.
My Prediction for Worrell in 2006: A promotion to the AA Springfield Cardinals _________________

| Heck Yea.. Worrell was AWESOME this year.. Sure he blew a save in the playoffs but he was pretty strong and a very big key role for Palm Beach this year. I would think he'll go to Springfield next year. Congrats Mark!! |

In just their third season, the Palm Beach Cardinals were the 2005 Florida State League champions. The banner is up and the rings are passed out.
"That's all behind us now, but it was a good year," Cardinals second-year manager Ron "Pop" Warner said, as his team gets ready for the 2006 Florida State League campaign.
The Cardinals open the season Thursday with several returning players including third baseman Matt Dryer, outfielder Terry Evans, opening day pitcher Eric Haberer, pitcher Dennis Dove and catchers Matt Pagnozzi and Jason Motte.

Nice to see Blake Hawksworth not sucking for the first time in two years, right? I was really excited about him before the injuries hit, I'm hoping he can put it back together. _________________ -Dan
