The Cardinals and general manager Walt Jocketty have "parted ways," according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation.
The Cardinals have scheduled a 4 p.m. news conference to discuss Jocketty’s departure after 13 seasons as GM. _________________ The more she drinks, the better you look.

We can almost assume that this might lead to an early departure for our friend Mr. Tony and his sidekick Duncan as well. _________________ "What does a mama bear on the pill have in common with the World Series? No cubs. ~Harry Caray"

Freakin fantastic
Bye Tony.. Maybe.. maybe not.. but this isnt a good sign for Tony either..
| Quote: |
| As GM, Jocketty fortified the roster with acquisitions such as Mark McGwire, Jim Edmonds, Edgar Renteria, Darryl Kile, Chris Carpenter, Scott Rolen, Woody Williams, Dennis Eckersley, Todd Stottlemyre, Fernando Vina, Adam Wainwright, Jason Marquis, Larry Walker, Will Clark and Jeff Weaver. But other than Weaver, who pitched well in the 2006 postseason, Jocketty has been unable to make high-impact acquisitions over the last two seasons. |
Thanks for everything Walt.. you did what you could.. you helped bring us a World Championship.. man.. what a sad day.. |

Smart move Billy boy. You probably tipped over the first domino in what may be a chain reaction with Tony next, then Duncan. There better be VERY good reason for his dismissal other than just a front office disagreement. _________________

If WJ is indeed unhappy with Luhnow running the farm system, then his ego is interfering with reality. Under Walt the farm system had become the joke of the league. Something different had to be done.
That being said, I'm not glad to see him leave. He will be hard to adequately replace. _________________ One year I hit .291 and had to take a salary cut. If you hit .291 today, you'd own the franchise.

I'm at loss for words. . . He didn't resign, they basically said, "Thank You, bub bye. . "
Jocketty deserves to be treated alot better than this!!!

Wow, I didn't see this one coming. Jocketty was the least of the problems. He did all he could with what ownership gave him to spend. Just... wow. _________________ The STL Cardinals are my favorite baseball squadron. |

I agree with you about the farm system murph. I hope this begins some rebuilding time so this team can put together another good run in a couple years.
I'm totally shocked by this especially since he was under contract through next season.
Thanks for the great years this decade Walt and for bringing us a championship! It was always fun around the trade deadline, waiting for a WOW trade from you. _________________ You see, you spend a good piece of your life gripping a baseball, and in the end it turns out that it was the other way around all the time. ~Jim Bouton, Ball Four, 1970 |

I guess I'm OK with this. The rules and the economics of the game may have changed to the extent that Jocketty's style doesn't get the best results in St. Louis anymore. You can live off of the reputation of the long ago good trades for so long before it has to eventually be asked, "What have you done for me lately?"
If anybody has a GM opening, though, especially a team with a strong farm system, you'd think they'd want to snap him right up. |

Bernie on Mozeliak...
If Mozeliak gets the job, things can continue as normal.
[Heck], he's the one who signed Franklin and Springer last offseason...
agents like him; Tony likes him.

| Boy, what a way to go. This only helps La Russa's decision with the strong alliance he had with Jocketty.....unless DeWitt makes it for him first. |

Wow I never saw this coming, especially this quick.
This has the feeling of a runaway train right now that may be really hard to catch. _________________ "Who is Karim Garcia?"

Is it really Jocketty's fault that no big moves have been made lately? Or, is it the fact that we don't give him any money to work with. Just a question. |
