I dont like it but I dont see why Tony wouldnt do it.. I just get the feeling Izturis will be hitting 9th.. I dont think it matters one way or the other with the current lineup, but what would you do?

I thought I saw somewhere that TLR said the pitcher would go back to ninth, but I'm not sure where that was.

I hope he goes back to battting the pitcher 9th. Not that it really matters either way, but it didn't really seemed like it helped out that much to me. One part of the order I would like to see change though is Pujols batting 3rd. I think with the way the team is shapeing up this year he should bat 4th.

Here's an article about the pitcher hitting eighth. (Warning: lots of stats!)

I don't know if I care that it goes back to the ninth slot. The Cardinals won more games, it seems like (without digging up the stats) with the pitcher in the eighth slot. I don't know if that was a cause or not, but it's interesting.

I'm not sure if there was a comparison done between the offense before the switch and the offense after it.

well if wainwright is pitching that day chances are he'd out hit whoever else TLR would put in the bottom of the order anyway.

They'll probably have Wainwright lead off or bat around Pujols for protection in his starts. Ankiel-Pujols-Wainwright, back to back to back jacks, lol. Man, this is going to be an interesting season. I sure picked a great year to upgrade to full season tickets. At least the All-Star Game will be here in '09.

Batting Pujols 4th would be counter productive. He would lose about 50 AB per year and would be leading off an inning more. The 4th hitter leads off innings second most after the leadoff guy. Those increased leadoff AB would mean less ABS with RISP. Additionally he would have less protection as the 4th guy is now the 3rd hitter. The only up side would be if the then 3rd guy hits as well as Pujols did because he is providing protection. Who do we have that could rise to that occasion?

In the middle of this Gordon column it says TLR is leaning toward the pitcher at 8 again.

Until the Glaus deal, it was looking to me like the pitcher's spot was due to bat cleanup.
